About Union Maritime

Union Maritime Limited is a London-based shipowner and operator. Its core business is the product tanker market, focused on MR2 and larger vessels, alongside a presence in the dry bulk sector. The company is also investing in its future fleet, with newbuild hulls at Wuhu Shipyard in China. Decisions on when to buy, sell and build are central to the business, and the S&P / Strategy team sits at the heart of that work.

Role Purpose

The Junior Analyst will support the S&P / Strategy team in tracking the secondhand, newbuilding and demolition markets, analysing potential acquisitions and identifying areas for investment across tanker and dry bulk. Working closely with Guy Blunden, the Senior Associates and the Analyst, you will turn market data and broker intelligence into clear analysis, practical tools and well-reasoned recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

Market Monitoring & Intelligence

· Monitor vessel sales, asset values, newbuilding orders and contracting, and demolition activity on a daily and weekly basis across the tanker and dry bulk markets.

· Review broker reports and market intelligence, track comparable sales, and flag notable transactions, price movements and emerging trends to the team.

Asset Screening & Acquisition Analysis

· Screen and evaluate secondhand and newbuild acquisition candidates, reviewing vessel specifications, age, building yard, and inspection and class information.

· Assess valuations against recent comparables and model earnings potential to test the investment case for each candidate.

· Prepare clear, well-supported acquisition recommendations for review by the Head of Strategy and senior team members.

· Prepare and maintain candidate vessel lists, target and watch lists, owner lists and sales candidate lists.

Investment Research

· Research segments, vessel types and market trends to identify areas for investment and support the company's investment strategy.

· Analyse the drivers of asset values, such as fleet age profiles, the orderbook, demolition and regulatory change, and summarise the implications for the business.

Tools, Models & Databases

· Build and refine models and analytical tools for vessel valuation, fleet analysis and market analysis, primarily in Excel and, ideally, using Python or Power BI.

· Maintain and develop the vessel sales register, asset value database, and fleet and market databases, taking ownership of data quality.

Reporting

· Compile the weekly S&P market round-up, presenting tanker and dry bulk separately for asset values, sales and newbuildings.

· Consolidate broker reports into concise internal summaries, and prepare analysis, charts and slides for internal management presentations.

Development Path

This role is designed for someone who wants to build a long-term career in shipping. It begins with a strong analytical foundation and offers a clear opportunity to grow into a more commercial position over time. As your knowledge and judgement develop, you will gain increasing exposure to brokers and counterparties, take part in deal negotiations and support transaction execution alongside senior colleagues.
