Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to improve attendance, inclusion, access to learning and life outcomes for children and young people between 5 and 25 years across the North & Mid locality of Devon working in partnership with families and schools.
The role will work in partnership with children, young people, their families, and schools to identify barriers to learning, inclusion and attendance and to agree an action plan to improve outcomes.
This is a time limited service with specific outcomes aimed at embedding empowerment and building confidence within families and schools. The role will build the capacity of setting staff to drive inclusive communities.
Working in the family home and/or school setting the role will work closely with other agencies to ensure that the right services are available for children and young people and their families at the right time.
Must hold a full current driving licence and have access to a vehicle for regular business use (travel expenses are recoverable) and be able to travel regularly to family homes and school settings in the locality with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act.
Summary of main duties
- Support children and young people who have challenges around being included in school life due to attendance, inclusion and learning challenges to thrive in their education setting and continue their journey of lifelong learning.
- Work in partnership with children, families, schools and settings and partners to understand barriers to learning, inclusion and/or attendance and to agree shared action plans.
- Work directly with children and young people and their families , both in their home and in school to overcome these difficulties, ensuring that the child’ voice is central
- To build capacity in schools and settings by working alongside staff through modelling /coaching to develop skills, understanding and confidence to implement recommended strategies and develop fluency in the delivery of support.
- To deliver school based support to promote access to the curriculum, promotion of independent learning skills and develop social, emotional and mental health skills.
- Monitor individual progress towards outcomes and goals, contributing to regular review and adaptation of the action plan and interventions.
- Build relationships with children, families, and schools, providing face to face practical support and advice.
- Ensure that all support and interventions safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
