Road Surfacing Operative Location: Edinburgh and surrounding area Experienced in road surfacing? Confident operating surfacing plant? We’re looking for a Multi‑Skilled Road Surfacing Operative to join an established and supportive surfacing gang working across the Edinburgh region. This is a hands‑on, safety‑critical role delivering high‑quality surfacing on some of the region’s most important infrastructure. What you’ll be doing Reporting to the Gang Supervisor, you’ll be a key part of a multi‑skilled surfacing team delivering works safely, efficiently and to specification. Your role will include: Operating road surfacing plant and equipment such as pavers, rollers, tractors, chippers and associated machineryWorking with hot coated materials on live construction and highways environmentsLaying coated materials in line with specifications and BS tolerancesCarrying out day‑to‑day plant checks and basic maintenanceMaintaining excellent housekeeping standardsPlaying an active role in zero harm, behavioural safety and site compliancePromoting safe working practices and challenging unsafe behaviours on site What we’re looking for You’ll already have practical experience within road surfacing, ideally across highways environments such as motorways, A roads or airfields. Essential / desirable experience includes: Previous experience in asphalt laying and road surfacingProven ability to operate surfacing plant, with relevant plant ticketsExperience working on larger infrastructure or motorway projectsCSCS card (preferred)Full UK driving licenceAbility to work both independently and as part of a gangGood communication skills and a proactive, hands‑on attitudeFlexible approach to working hours and locationsStrong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards Why Tarmac You’ll be joining a well‑established surfacing operation where teamwork, safety and pride in workmanship genuinely matter.
