Help schools thrive. Support better outcomes for children and young people across Devon.
Devon County Council is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Education Finance Consultant (part-time applicants will be considered) to join our highly regarded Education Finance team.
This is a rewarding and varied role that offers the opportunity to work directly with schools and educational settings across Devon, helping leaders make informed financial decisions that support sustainable, education and positive outcomes for children and young people.
As a trusted finance partner, you will build strong relationships with headteachers, school business professionals, senior leaders and governors, providing practical advice and support on a wide range of financial matters. From annual budget planning and budget monitoring to financial forecasting, funding changes and resource management, your expertise will help schools navigate an increasingly pressured and complex financial landscape.
No two days are the same. One day you could be visiting a primary school to support budget setting, the next delivering training to governors, analysing financial information, or helping school leaders understand the impact of national funding and legislative changes on their organisation.
Working as part of a supportive and experienced team, you will provide financial advice to schools and educational establishments, while developing lasting partnerships with customers across the county. You will play a key role in helping schools make the best use of their resources, enabling them to focus on what matters most – delivering excellent education and opportunities for children and young people.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience of financial management, budgeting or accountancy.
- Can confidently explain financial information to a wide range of audiences, including non-finance professionals.
- Builds strong working relationships and provides excellent customer service.
- Has strong analytical and problem-solving skills and enjoys finding practical solutions.
- Is organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities.
- Enjoys working independently while being part of a collaborative team.
- Is required to travel around the county attending schools
Why join us?
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a specialist career in education finance whilst making a real difference to schools and communities throughout Devon. You will benefit from flexible working, a supportive team environment, opportunities for professional development, and the chance to work with a diverse range of educational settings across one of the largest local authority areas in the country.
If you are passionate about finance, enjoy working with people, and want to help schools make every pound count, we would love to hear from you.
