Restaurant Waiter / Waitress

Join our team and help bring the story of a great English manor to life, one table at a time

Who We Are

At Dumbleton Hall, we do not simply run a hotel — we steward a great English manor, where every guest is received as the honoured guest of the family. Fires are lit, dinner is served, and life unfolds as it once did in the Golden Age of English country houses.

Set in the richest pocket of the Cotswolds, our story reaches back to the Holland family, the literary circles of Gaskell, Dickens and Darwin, the Mitford sisters, and poet laureate John Betjeman. Today, we continue that tradition, offering guests a living narrative of culture and hospitality drawn from the Belle Époque, the 1920s, and artistic touchstones such as William Morris and Frederic Leighton.

The Role

As a Waiter or Waitress at Dumbleton Hall, you are at the very heart of our guests' experience. Whether serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, or an evening in our restaurant, you bring warmth, polish and genuine hospitality to every table — welcoming guests by name, anticipating their needs, and helping create moments that feel grand yet warmly human.

Key Responsibilities
  • Welcome and seat guests, ensuring every arrival feels like that of an honoured guest of the family
  • Take food and drink orders accurately, offering confident recommendations across the menu, wine list and daily specials
  • Deliver table service to a high standard, including silver service where required, with timing and presentation suited to the occasion
  • Set up and break down the restaurant, ensuring tables, linen, glassware and cutlery meet the Hall's standards of polish
  • Adapt service style across breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, fine dining and private events
  • Liaise closely with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure smooth, well-paced service
  • Support weddings, private events and seasonal occasions — from the Cheltenham Festival to the Gold Cup — as part of the wider events team
  • Handle guest queries, special requests, and dietary or allergen requirements with care and accuracy
  • Process payments and maintain accurate records where required
  • Uphold health, safety, food hygiene and allergen standards at all times
Who We're Looking For
  • Warm, articulate, and genuinely guest-focused
  • Previous restaurant or table service experience is desirable but not essential — the right character matters most
  • A keen eye for detail, presentation and polish
  • Comfortable working as part of a close-knit team during busy service periods
  • An interest in food, wine and hospitality, with a willingness to learn silver service and fine dining standards
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings and events
Why Join Us
  • Be part of a landmark transformation of one of the Cotswolds' grandest manor houses
  • Work with a team inspired by culture, quality and guest delight
  • Grow your skills and craft within a storied English estate environment
  • Contribute to experiences that guests will remember for life
  • Enjoy staff benefits, training and clear growth pathways within a historic, romantic, and extraordinary setting
